Rain pours down mountains filling streams and lakes, giving us gorgeous sights like Crater Lake and Yellowstone Falls. Not bad for step one. The rivers wind down black mountains and green plains emptying into the sea, mixing with salt water and keeping salinity at a safe level for ocean life, for the seals of Monterey, CA diving for fish. Colossal thirsty clouds suck water back up again and gush down on the hills and peaks, restarting the process.

What does this have to do with mushrooms? Well, these tiny fungi have their own part in the cycle of life. They break down dead organic matter and redistribute it back into soil, feeding nearby plant life and cleaning the area of the past. They’re the unsung heroes of the dirt.
